HOTA(Human Organ Transplant Act)
My Teahcer today talked about an article in The Straits Times. It is about the HOTA(Human Organ Transplant Act). In the late 19 century, Singapore faced a crisis. The number of people needing organ transplant were increasing while the number of people willing o donate their organ was remaining the same. In the year 2003, because of the number of people needing organs, Singapore came up with scheme, it is called HOTA(Human Organ Transplant Act). Not long after the scheme was released, the number of patients needing organs has gone down. This shows that this scheme is very successful. Even though, the problem now is that whether people who doesn't know about the scheme if they want to donate their organs. This may be unfair to them because they may not want to donate their organs but they must. Or may be you are too busy to opt in. Maybe before you reach the government, you got knocked down by a car. How do you opt in now? Actually, there is two sides of the story, it is which side you are on.
